ANKARA - General Tommy Franks, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), said on Monday that they did not have any demand from Turkey regarding Iraq.
Franks and Gen. Joseph W. Ralston, NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, departed from Ankara after wrapping up contacts in Ankara.
General Franks told a press conference that they visited Turkey as a part of their tour to the region also covering Jordan, Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Franks said that they had ''constructive'' contacts at the General Staff Headquarters.
They took up Iraq issue and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) deployed in Afghanistan during their contacts, Franks noted.
Franks stated that they had consultations in Turkey and they would also continue their contacts from now on.
Upon a question, Franks pointed out that they did not demand use of Turkish bases or air space. He said that their visit did not aim to make any demands from Turkey.
Noting that U.S. President George Bush had not made a decision about an operation on Iraq yet, Franks said that they would continue ''consultation and discussion'' process and that the decision could be taken at the end of this process.
Ralston evaluated their contacts in Ankara as very beneficial.
