Franks And Ralston In Ankara

ANKARA - Army Gen. Tommy Franks, head of U.S. military operations in the Persian Gulf, and Gen. Joseph W. Ralston, the U.S. Air Force general commanding NATO forces in Europe, arrived in Ankara on Sunday to hold contacts.
Franks and Ralston are expected to meet Chief of General Staff, Gen. Hilmi Ozkok, Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's military Chief Consultant and General Staff Operation Department Chief Gen. Koksal Karabay and General Staff Plan and Principles Chairman Gen. Resat Turgut.
It was claimed that the U.S. commanders may request permission from Turkey to use air bases and air space for a possible operation against Iraq.
An official briefing about the visit said any demand from the United States to use Turkey's territories was out of question.
The commanders are expected to complete their contacts on Monday and depart from Turkey.
