LAST EIGHT JEWS IN KIRKLARELI
Around 1,300 Jews used to live in northeastern Kirklareli province at the beginning of the previous century. Today, only eight Jews are living there. They cannot perform their religious prayers in a synagogue since they are not ten people. There are so few Jews in Kirklareli because of the migration. But, those eight people insist on staying in Kirklareli because they love this city and the life there.

''YOU CANNOT ADMINISTER COUNTRY WITH THESE FILES''
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal pressed on Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in central Eskisehir province on Saturday. Baykal said, ''you cannot administer the country with the files behind you. You cannot behave as if you are new by going out of the political swamp.'' Baykal later went to western Izmir province and addressed almost 70 thousand people.

UNREGISTERED AND RETIREMENT INCREASE
When dismissals, unemployment, unregistered employment, and retirement increased, revenues of social security agencies decreased. A total of 11.5 quadrillion Turkish liras (TL) of appropriations was allocated for these institutions in the budget of 2003. The Pension Fund will take 6.2 quadrillion, the Social Security Agency for the Self-Employed (Bag-Kur) will get 3.3 quadrillion and the Social Security Agency (SSK) will be allocated 1.8 quadrillion TL in 2003. Source allocated for the social security agencies will reach 11 quadrillion 550 trillion TL with other transfers. The source allocated for these institutions will form 8 percent of budget expenditures.

STRIKE RIGHT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO CIVIL SERVANTS
The Progress Report announced by the European Commission stressed that the public employees should be granted right to strike. The report drew the attention that labour force within the scope of collective bargaining was around 15 percent and said that this rate was fairly lower than that of the European Union (EU) countries.

SUREYYA NOW STAR OF WORLD
World-famous Turkish athlete Sureyya Ayhan was ranked among the ten successful athletes of the world. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)nominated Ayhan among the best athletes of the year. Best male and female athletes will be chosen in a gala to be held in Monte Carlo on November 17.

AK PARTY FILED
The Prime Ministry Follow-Up Board (BTK) sent the names of bureaucrats who ran their candidacies from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) to the General Staff and National Security Council (NSC). The BTK, ''in charge of preventing fundamentalist and separatist cadres in the public'', started to investigate the bureaucrats who have run their candidacies for the general elections. The board sent the list of candidates from AK Party and other conservative parties and candidates from political parties ''the ethnic identity of which is influential'' to the General Staff and NSC. Those who are not elected as deputies and return back to their former positions will have problems even if their parties come to the power.

NATIONAL VIEW CADRES USING POLITICAL ISLAM CLING TO ''HEADSCARF PROBLEM''
Cadres of National View, both of which grew by using political Islam in election campaigns, came together in ''headscarf problem'':
Against the propaganda of Necmettin Erbakan attributing importance to headscarf in election campaigns, Justice and Development Party (AK Party) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave up his statement which said, ''headscarf is not primary problem. We will solve this problem with social agreement.''
Tension escalates in political parties as elections approach. AK Party cadre began to give open messages on some issues, including headscarf, which has importance for its supporters.

TURKISH DELEGATION DUE TO UNITED STATES TO JOIN A COURSE ON
''FINANCIAL RESOURCES OF TERRORISM''
A 23-people delegation will go to the United States to participate in a course entitled, ''Financial Resources of Terrorism'' in FBI National Academy.
The United States invited the Turkish delegation to join the course.
The 23-people delegation is comprised of officials from Interior Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Finance Ministry, Justice Ministry and Treasury Undersecretariat.

DGMs TO BE EXPERTISED
Justice Minister Aysel Celikel said the State Security Courts (DGMs) should be turned into expertise courts in the coming period as it happened in other countries. ''I hope this will take place soon,'' she said.
Celikel also said terrorism was eradicated to a great extend.
She noted that amendments made to protect human rights were initiated with an amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure (CMUK) in 1992.
Some of those amendments could not been implemented in DGMs due to terrorism, Celikel stated.
Celikel pointed out that human-oriented judicial understanding had started to prevail in laws now.

NSC TO CONVENE FOR POSSIBLE IRAQI WAR
As barganings are underway regarded with the possible operation of the United States against Iraq, Turkey enters into a critical week.
Two high ranking generals from the United States will visit Ankara on Monday, and following this National Security Council (NSC) will convene on Tuesday having Iraq on its agenda.
NSC will discuss all the possible developments regarded with possible Iraqi war.

BAHCELI: WE WERE SUCCESSFUL
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, who also acts as the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said the 57th government fulfilled many reforms, stressing that very important developments were recorded in many fields despite the two massive earthquakes.

COLD WEATHER TO COME
Most parts of the country will be under the influence of cold weather coming from the Balkans. Temperatures to decrease 10-12 degrees in western regions on Sunday and in Northern, Central and eastern regions on Monday. Cold and rainy weather is expected to leave the country on Tuesday.

ACTIVITY IN IRAQI BORDER MAKES REGIONAL PEOPLE UNEASY
As discussions are underway regarded with the Turkish military existence in Northern Iraq, people of the region cover the activity in the border with concern. Foreign Minister Sukru Sina Gurel said, ''we hope that nobody will force Turkey to take some other measures on this issue.''
Gurel said Turkey's existence in the region would continue, adding that, ''we will take additional measures if necessary.''

ECONOMIC PROMISES ARE NOT REALISTIC
Central Bank Deputy Governor Fatih Ozatay said some statements could be made in some areas before elections, stressing that high debts did not leave another alternative but the implementation of the current program.
Ozatay said he thought that the parties, which are candidates for the ruling after election, would not implement a different program. Ozatay said there was not much alternative when there is a program where positive results were obtained.
