SANLIURFA - Many artifacts dating to 8000-2000 B.C. were unearthed during archeological excavations in southeastern Sanliurfa province.
Sanliurfa Museum Curator Eyup Bucak told A.A correspondent on Saturday that bowls, stone pots, and small statues dating to Neolitic and Bronze ages were unearthed during excavations in nine separate regions.
Excavations in Teleilat Tumulus, Akarcay Hill, Akarcay Tumulus, Zeytinlibahce and Mezra Tumulus had been completed, Bucak said.
Bucak noted, ''excavations will be started in Tilvez, Harran and Surtepe in this year. Excavations in Gobeklitepe still continue. Artifacts unearthed during excavations are kept waiting in our museum to be exhibited. Excavations in which archeologists from Turkey, the United States, Germany, Italy and Spain are taking part still continue.''
They found 202 archeological artifacts, two coins, and six seals during the excavations in 2001, Bucak stated.
Bucak added that citizens found 248 archeological artifacts, 74 coins, and 12 seals and handed those artifacts over to the museum.
