IZMIR - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel said on Tuesday that he hoped everybody to act in common sense while talking about a possible operation against Iraq.
When reminded about the words of Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal who said that ''if an operation takes place when the existing government is in power, this will be a great disaster,'' Gurel said that ''in fact, the thing that will cause a disaster is voicing of such words about the future of the country by persons who don't know their position. I hope everybody comes to his/her senses and understand the fact that there is a responsible and experienced government in the country.''
Gurel stressed that the government informs all the parties represented in the parliament about foreign policy developments, adding that ''we also fulfil the mission of giving information about any new developments.''
''Turkey has the power to take all sorts of measures and to protect its rights and interests against any threats in its region,'' he said.
