Kyrgyz President: Kyrgyzstan Opens Its Territories To Anti-terrorist Coalition

ISTANBUL - Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev said on Monday that Kyrgyzstan opened its territories to anti-terrorist coalition.
Speaking at the Seventh Heads of State and Government Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Akayev said that the ECO had every kind of potential necessary to be efficient in regional integration.
Akayev noted that member countries had common historical ties and that the cooperation had its roots in days when Silk Road was active.
He was sure that the Istanbul Declaration that would be adopted later in the day would increase interests of member countries and that today's meeting would show them their common goals, Akayev said.
Touching on September 11th terrorist attacks, Akayev pointed out that all the world was aware of the international terrorism threat in the wake of those attacks.
Akayev said that Kyrgyzstan took a political decision and opened its territories to anti-terrorist coalition.
Kyrgyzstan played an active role in international efforts to contribute to reconstruction of Afghanistan, Akayev stated.
Akayev noted that they made 15 thousand tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
They wanted to contribute to reconstruction of Afghanistan, Akayev said.
Akayev drew the attention to the necessity that the ECO had to activate its action plans about that issue.
Noting that Afghanistan's participation in ECO activities had to be ensured, Akayev said that they had to attribute importance to integrate their international interests and regional interests.
Akayev stated that Kyrgyzstan attributed importance to cooperation in trade, transportation and energy with member countries.
Laying the infrastructure of transportation and communication was a prior issue among the participating countries, Akayev said.
Akayev noted that they were trying to make new railway connections, adding that Kyrgyzstan also attributed great importance to inter-connected electricity networks.
