Turkish soccer team beat Macedonian soccer team 2-1 in the European Championship Qualifying Group match in Skopje last night. Turkish team maintained its leadership in the qualifying group with six points. Our most important rival Britain beat Slovakia 2-1 in its first match.

ECEVIT:MANY SOLDIERS CAN DIE
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit responded to questions about Iraq in a private tv channel yesterday. Noting that things went out of control in Northern Iraq, Ecevit said that ''I don't want to accept and understand another war, many soldiers can die if we are obliged to take part in such a war.''

Ankara's response has become harsher when Barzaný and Talabaný announced ýndependent status for Kurdýstan ýn the draft constýtutýon they recently announced. Ecevýt yesterday saýd ''the thýngs got out of control'' ýn Northern Iraq.
''The draft constýtutýon ýncludes thýngs that are unacceptable for Turkey,'' Ecevýt saýd. ''The constýtutýon proposes separate flags and monetary unýt. What else do you need to establýsh a state? Apart from ýts securýty aspect, now we're facýng a polýtýcal dýmensýon. Untýl the last mýnute, we'll try to prevent a war. The war would have grave consequences. Turkey doesn't want war but we have completed all mýlýtary and dýplomatýc preparatýons.''

ANKARA TO WARN THE U.S. ABOUT NORTHERN IRAQ
Ankara, bothered by the recent developments ýn Northern Iraq, wýll ask the Unýted States to gýve an end to thýs sýtuatýon. The Unýted States, on the other hand, has been ýn favor of establýshýng a democratýc regýme separate from Saddam's and ýt supports the efforts of the two Kurdýsh partýes to set up a common parlýament. Some offýcýals from the Bush admýnýstratýon told Mýllýyet that Turkey should see ýt as a posýtýve development ýf the Kurdýsh groups reach an agreement among themselves sýnce thýs would mean stabýlýty on the Turkýsh border.

MESUT YILMAZ ADDRESSES PEOPLE IN DIYARBAKIR
Mesut Yýlmaz, the leader of the Motherland Party (ANAP) and Deputy Prime Minister addressed people in a public meeting held by his party in southeastern Diyarbakýr province. Reminding his earlier words as ''the way that goes to EU passes from Diyarbakir'' Yýlmaz addressed around 10,000 people in Diyarbakýr. Yýlmaz said in the meeting that ''Turkey will be either a European country or a Middle East country, the decision will be given by you on November 3.''

ECEVIT:WE CAN'T ACCEPT DEVELOPMENTS IN IRAQ
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that ''Turkey can't accept the recent developments in Northern Iraq. We have to discuss the issue with the U.S. in respect of politics.'' Ecevit noted that things went out of control in Iraq as Barzani and Talabini declared Kirkuk as their capital and they prepared a constitution.

TUSIAD SAYS IMF PROGRAMME SHOULD CONTINUE
Association of Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen (TUSIAD) conveyed its views about the top-issues that should be on the agenda of the new government in Turkey, to the political parties. TUSIAD asked the new government to continue implementing the IMF programme, to take concrete steps in economic and politicial reform process, not to forget that the Cyprus question has come to a critical point and to meet the shortcomings in the field of law.

ECEVIT SPEAKS AS IF HE IS SAYING GOODBYE
Democratic Left Party (DSP) leader and Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said in the ceremony held at Bilkent Hotel to introduce the Democratic Left Party's (DSP) Ankara deputies that ''Turkey is secular and it will stay secular, I have no doubt of that, but DSP should come out stronger from the elections as a condition of that.'' Referring to the deputies who resigned from DSP, Ecevit said that ''I believe that DSP is stronger today when compared to the past. Rahsan Ecevit, the founder of the party and I, think of giving up active politics, but DSP will continue to be powerful. The continuation of DSP does not depend on Bulent Ecevit's staying in power as the leader of DSP.''

100,000 LETTERS TO THE EU FROM TURKEY'S AEGEAN REGION
Another campaign to make Turkey an EU member has started in the Aegean region. Motherland Party (ANAP) Istanbul deputy Bulent Akarcali said they would start the ''100,000 Letters to the EU'' campaign next week. ''We're expecting the support of the NGOs and political parties,'' he said.

BAYKAL:''VOTE FOR HONEST PEOPLE''
Republican People Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal has asked voters to elect a ''prime minister who doesn't escape from the court'' referring to Justice and Development Party (AKP) leader Erdogan. ''The CHP has no stain of corruption in its history. There's no one our our lists that are wanted by Interpol. If you vote for them, they will come to power and you'll have no right to complain about corruption.''

BAHCELI:''LET'S JOIN EU IN AN HONOURABLE WAY''
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli referred to the relations of Turkey with the EU in MHP public meetings in Bolu and Duzce provinces. Bahceli said that EU's telling Turkey that 'if these parties come to power, we won't give you a negotiation date' means putting embargo on the Turkish national will before Turkey's joining the EU. Criticizing the EU for telling Turkey what kind of a government they prefer to be set up on Nov. 3, Bahceli said ''this is a free and an independent country and we can't accept that. If we are going to be a member of EU, we must do it in an honourable way.''

DENKTAS IS DOING WELL
Rauf Denktas, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) who had went through a heart surgery in New York, held a new conference yesterday and said that he was in good condition. Denktas said that he reads the Turkish newspapers every day and he is informed about the developments, adding he does not want to respond to political questions. Denktas will rest for two weeks in New York, one week in Ankara and for one week in Lefkosa and he is expected to leave the hospital in the beginning of next week.
