KABUL - Air Forces Commander General Cumhur Asparuk who is currently in Afghan capital Kabuk opened on Tuesday a high school repaired by Turkish soldiers assigned in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Speaking at the opening, ceremony, Asparuk said, ''children are the future of a nation. So we attribute great importance to children and their education.''
Noting that civil-military cooperation projects in Kabul would continue, Asparuk said that those projects would accelerate friendly and brotherhood relations between Turkey and Afghanistan and the school was a gift from the Turkish soldiers to Afghan children who had been deprived of education during the 23-year war and clash period.
Yakatut High School was repaired in three months together with its sports facilities, playing ground, toilets, infrastructure and desks and chairs.
A total of six thousand children will study at this high school which also includes a day nursery for teachers' children.
ASPARUK MEETS WITH AFGHAN PRESIDENT KARZAI
Air Forces Commander Cumhur Asparuk met on Tuesday with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Formation of national army in Afghanistan and training of army personnel were taken up at the meeting.
Sources quoted Asparuk as saying that they were ready to ensure education and training possibilities for Afghan officers in Turkish military institutions.
Asparuk noted that Turkey's command of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) would end on December 20.
Turkey would continue to assist ISAF after it handed over the mission, Asparuk stated.
Military cooperation and initiatives related with an agreement on military training were also taken up at the meeting.
