Ankara Expresses Uneasiness About Some Issues In Progress Report To E.U. Ambassadors

ANKARA - Ankara expressed on Tuesday uneasiness about some issues in the Progress Report on Turkey, which took place in the press before it was officially announced, to ambassadors of European Union (EU) countries.
Sources said that Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal called ambassadors of EU Term President Denmark, Germany, Britain and France to the ministry and held a meeting.
The sources noted that Ziyal expressed uneasiness about chapters on implementation in the report and claims that torture continued in a widespread way and warned that political conjuncture in which Turkey was situated should be taken into consideration.
Prior to his meeting with the ambassadors, Ziyal met with EU Commission's General Director for enlargement Michael Leigh. Ziyal once more expressed Ankara's uneasiness about some issues in the report.
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Akin Alptuna met with EU Term President Denmark's Ambassador in Ankara H.J. Kretschmer at a lunch.
