ENIGMA OF URANIUM
As claims saying that Iraqi Head of State Saddam Hussein had been making an atomic bomb, were high on agenda, gendarme forces launched an operation in southeastern province of Sanliurfa, and confiscated uranium. CNN News Channel gave broad place to the news story. Necessary evidence was found to launch an operation against Iraq. British press wrote that the incident justified Prime Minister Tony Blair. However, two people who were detained in the operation in Sanliurfa were released to be tried without detention. Meanwhile, Sanliurfa Governor Muzaffer Dilek stated that 140 gr. of uranium was seized in the operation. Earlier, it was claimed that 15.7 kg of uranium were confiscated.

SUPPORT FROM GREEK DEVELOPMENT MINISTER
Development Minister Apostolos-Athanasios Tsokhatzopoulos of Greece said that Greece should play a leading role for Turkey's European Union (EU) full membership prior to the Copenhagen Summit in December in which an important decision will be taken about Turkey. In an interview with the Eleftorotopia Newspaper, Tsokhatzopoulos said, ''if Turkish people choose the way leading to the EU in the general elections on November 3, 2002, the EU should give a response. I believe that joint initiatives of Turkey and Greece in the international platforms will be beneficial for both countries.''

''THREE POLITICAL PARTIES WILL EXCEED ELECTORAL THRESHOLD''
Tarhan Erdem assessed the recent public surveys about upcoming elections. KONDA Research Company Director Erdem said that only three political parties would exceed the electoral threshold in the general elections to be held on November 3, 2002. He enumerated these political parties as the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Youth Party (GP).

PARLIAMENT TO BE OPENED TOMORROW
The parliamentary general assembly will convene at 3.00 p.m. tomorrow. Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi will deliver a speech. President Ahmet Necdet Sezer decided earlier not to make any statement to mark the beginning of the new legislative year. If initiatives aiming at postponing general elections scheduled to be held on November 3, 2002, fail, the parliament will recess again.

KAPLAN TO BE EXTRADITED TO TURKEY
German Interior Minister Otto Schily said that Metin Kaplan could be extradited to Turkey after Turkish parliament decided to lift the death penalty. Noting that they had been holding contacts with Turkish government officials, Schily said that so-called caliph Kaplan would be deported from Germany after serving his remaining one year imprisonment term.

YILMAZ: ''ELECTIONS WILL CAUSE US TO MISS THE EU OPPORTUNITY''
State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz, who also acts as leader of the Motherland Party (ANAP), said that Turkish public opinion had been concentrated on general elections instead of European Union (EU) full membership process. He said that general elections would cause Turkey to miss the EU opportunity.

TEST DAY FOR PARLIAMENT
Efforts to delay elections will be on the agenda of the Parliament which will convene on Tuesday. Recai Kutan, the leader of the Felicity Party (SP), recalled that the Motherland Party (ANAP), New Turkey Party (YTP), and the SP would point out their views institutionally to delay elections.
It was reported that if SP,YTP, and ANAP oppose to the recess of the general assembly during the Consultation Committee, DSP, MHP, AKP and DYP groups could make proposals for recess. Voting of all those proposals will be the first important test of the front which aims to delay the elections.

ECEVIT: ELECTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE, THERE IS NO RETURN
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, who addressed the people in southern Adana province, pointed out that efforts of some parliamentarians, known as ''disgruntled'' to delay elections, will be in vain. He said, ''elections can not be postponed as some did not like it, and as some could not be elected. There is no return, the elections will take place on November 3.''

RAINY WEATHER TO COME
Rainy weather will be influential in Turkey till the weekend. There will be heavy rain in Marmara and Black Sea on Monday and on Tuesday. Officials warn against inundation.

BLUE STREAM PROJECT TO BE COMPLETED
First natural gas, which will be transported to Turkey through a pipeline that will be installed under Black Sea from Russia to Turkey, is expected to come in December.
Recently, Gazprom executive board approved a plan regarded with delivery of the first gas in December.
Within the scope of the Blue Stream project, a 501-km long natural gas pipeline was installed between Samsun and Ankara.
The 1200 km pipeline is expected to cost 3.4 billion U.S. dollars. A total of 2100 meters of the 376 km section of the pipeline will pass under the sea.

CRITICAL WEEK
Turkey will enter a critical week with respect to domestic and foreign developments. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones arrived in Ankara in the eve of Gulf war. Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz is also expected to visit Ankara today.
Iraq is expected to give ''prevent the United States'' message to Ankara.

BELGIUM: TURKEY SHOULD BE IN THE EU
Belgian Minister of Foreign Trade Didier Gosuin, accompanied by Belgian businessmen and representatives of Belgian companies, will hold contacts in Turkey.
Gosuin will hold contacts in Turkey aiming at investments and commercial cooperation. He will inaugurate Belgian Trade Attache's Office in Istanbul.
Didier Gosuin, who will continue contacts in Turkey till October 2, told reporters that they would search ways to improve commercial cooperation and stressed importance attributed to Mediterranean and especially Turkey.
Gosuin said that Turkey was very important because it was a European Union (EU) candidate and a country close to EU membership.
Political and economic investments had to be made, Gosuin noted. For this, they would open an attache office in Istanbul, he said.

TURKISH MILITARY DELEGATION MEETS WITH BARZANI
General Staff started to cover the developments in the region following the agreement of Kurdish leaders Massoud Barzani and Jalal Talabani on Federal State.
Hosyar Zebari, member of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) responsible for international relations, said a military delegation from the Turkish General Staff arrived in Erbil on September 26 and met with the Kurdish administrators.
Meanwhile, it was reported that KDP leader Barzani would send a high ranking official to Ankara soon aiming to settle relations.

FACILITIES IN EUROPEAN STANDARDS TO BE SET UP ON MOTORWAYS
General Directorate of Highways is getting prepared to install modern facilities on existing motorways within the framework of the restructuring necessary for the sector in the process of Turkey's accession to the EU.
