Ecevit: Elections Will Take Place In November

ADANA - Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) said on Sunday that elections would take place at the beginning of November, stressing that, ''I wish DSP will come to ruling in the elections, not the Republican People's Party (CHP) or Justice and Development Party (AK Party).''
Addressing an open air meeting held by his party, Ecevit said some circles tried to show him and his party as if they were demolished and exhausted. He said, ''as you see we are all here together in excellent condition. ''Those who wanted to destroy DSP, are about to vanish,'' Ecevit noted.
Pointing out that it would be revealed in November elections that DSP is stronger than ever, Ecevit said similar things happened in previous elections.
Ecevit said DSP's rate of votes were always shown lower in ''false public polls,'' noting that DSP was always the winner in elections. Ecevit said DSP would come to ruling by its own in November 3 elections.
Ecevit said DSP was also used to administer coalition government, yet noted that there would be no need for them to set up coalition governments because they would come to ruling as one party.
Pointing out that many things were made in the period of 57th government, Ecevit said, ''however there are many things to be done.'' Ecevit said they would fulfill all those when they come to ruling on their own.
Ecevit said Turkey was opened not only to inside but also to outside during the period of the 57th government, noting that gates of the European Union (EU) were opened during term in office of this government. He said right of education in mother tongue was brought and death sentence was abolished aiming to harmonize with the EU, stressing that thus integration began among people themselves.
Ecevit said they would open a university in Nevsehir bearing the name of big Turkish intellectual Haci Bektas Veli.
Ecevit said that DSP brought onto the agenda the secular opinion respectful to beliefs and thus, warm relations among people had started.
Villagers were the poorest part of Turkish people, Ecevit noted and reminded that they launched village-city project to bring developed city conditions to villages.
Ecevit said that there would not be any problems related with villagers in a few years.
Those who wanted to sabotage economy by mid-2002 tried every means and tried to destroy DSP, Ecevit stated.
Ecevit said, ''they have not achieved their target and they never will. DSP has overcome threats within a few months. They wanted to damage me and they considered me as vanished. But, as you see, I am strong and in full office. When my mandate is over, there are numberless people who can come to this post.''
Decision to hold early elections was a mistake, Ecevit pointed out. He said that they opposed to holding early elections at first while other political parties wanted early elections.
Ecevit went on saying, ''now, they have come to their senses and started to say 'what they have done.' They started to propose postponement of elections. Such a thing has not been seen throughout history. Candidates have been nominated and ballots have been published. All procedures have been launched. Elections will be held at the beginning of November. There can be a way out by force maybe, but our people cannot digest this. We want to hold this elections till the end.''
''Those who want to delay early elections and those who want to pave their way of early elections have started to come to me. They have started to ask for a way out. However, it is too late. Elections will be held at the beginning of November and I hope DSP will come to the power in these elections,'' Ecevit added.
