ANKARA - Parliament will re-open on October 1, 2002. The 21st term fifth legislative year will start the same day.
The parliament will convene at 3.00 p.m. on October 1. Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi will make an opening speech for the new legislative year.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will not make a speech at this year's ceremony.
If attempts to postpone the elections and amend Election Law fail to reach success, the parliament will again have a recess till the end of the elections.
The Consultation Board will be called for a meeting on Tuesday in order to take a decision about parliament's recess. Then, the proposal will be presented to the consent of the General Assembly.
If the General Assembly rejects the proposal about parliament's recess, it will re-convene on October 2.
If the attempts to postpone the elections fail to reach success, the parliament will convene at 3.00 p.m. on the fifth day following the announcement of the final results of the general elections by the Higher Election Board (YSK). The deputies will take oath and start their posts in this session.
