ANKARA - United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto arrived in Ankara on Friday.
Asked if he brought a special message to Ankara prior to the meeting between President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides in New York on October 3-4, De Soto underlined that he came to hold consultations.
De Soto said that he did not know whether or not Annan would present a new document to the sides.
In principle, they were not handling these issues clearly before the public, De Soto noted.
De Soto did not respond to questions of reporters by saying that he did not want to comment on those issues.
Alvaro De Soto, who has been attending the direct talks between Denktas Clerides as observer, is scheduled to meet with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal later in the day.
