NEW YORK - Umit Pamir, Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (U.N.), said late on Monday that Turkey wanted the Israeli government to end the siege of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's compound.
Speaking at the Security Council meeting on Middle East, Pamir said, ''as long as the siege of Arafat's compound continue, tension in the Middle East and territories that are under occupation increases.''
Pamir noted, ''we want the Israeli government to end the siege.''
Stressing that ''Turkey condemned every kind of terrorism'', Pamir criticized ''tight military measures implemented by Israel on Palestinian cities.''
Pamir stated that ''they called on the Israeli administration to once more think probable effects of Arafat's isolation on sensitive peace process.''
