TOP TEN UNIVERSITIES IN TURKEY
According to the International Scientific Reference Index, Turkey has been the 25th in the world in respect of number of academic articles. Here is the top ten universities in Turkey according to number of articles published by lecturers in universities: Bilkent, Koc, METU, Hacettepe, Baskent, Bogazici, Sabanci, ITU, Fatih and Isik Universities.

FIRST EURO THEN EU
Motherland Party (ANAP) proposed Turkey to adopt Euro before joining the European Union (EU) telling that the Turkish Lira which is losing value all the time causes stress for people. ''Euro is a stable and controllable currency unit. If Turkey uses Euro, Turkey will have an annual growth rate of 6-7 percent, and inflation will decrease,'' ANAP says.

ABDULLAH GUL TO BE AK PARTY'S CANDIDATE FOR PRIME MINISTRY
Officials in AK Party say that AK Party deputy leader Abdullah Gul will probably be the party's candidate for prime ministry. This is because ''the authority to appoint the prime minister belongs to President. As AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan can't be appointed as the prime minister as he is banned politically to be member of the parliament, the president will probably look at the statute of AK Party in order to see the second man in AK Party who is Abdullah Gul.

SUREYYA AYHAN BECOMES WORLD CHAMPION
European champion Turkish athlete Sureyya Ayhan became the first in women's 1500 meters in the Ninth Athletics World Cup held in Madrid, Spain yesterday. Sureyya Ayhan took the 1,500 meters in 4:02.57, she won her fourth international competition and won the 30,000 U.S. dollars reward.

ANKARA SEEMS RICHER THAN ISTANBUL
According to the figures of State Planning Organization (SPO), Ankara seems to be richer than Istanbul. Ankara comes the 13th in respect of production per capita, but it comes the first in respect of saving deposit per person. Persons living in Ankara have 5 billion liras in the bank on average, this amount is 4,5 billion liras in Istanbul and it is 1,5 billion liras for Turkey. Ankara also comes the first in respect of car per person, 16 of every 100 persons in Ankara own a car.

TURKEY HOPES SCHRODER TO WIN ELECTIONS IN GERMANY
The elections that is held in Germany today is critical for Turkey. If the conservative Stoiber wins the elections, it will be more difficult for Turkey to get a date from the EU to start full membership negotiations. Stoiber does not want the EU to enlarge, thus Turkey wants Social Democrat Schroder to win the elections again in Germany.

TURKS TO VOTE IN ELECTIONS IN GERMANY
Over 400 thousand Turkish people who live in Germany will give votes in the elections which will be held in Germany on Sunday. Their votes will play a very important role in the elections. The attitudes of the political parties towards the migrants affect the votes in Germany. The political party which has people of Turkish origin as its members mostly has been the Democratic Socialist Party (PDS).

SP AND YTP WAIT FOR ANAP
Felicity Party (SP) and New Turkey Party (YTP) are waiting for the decision which will be taken at Motherland Party (ANAP) Chairmanship Council on Monday. Necmettin Erbakan, the former leader of the outlawed Welfare Party (RP) had a meeting with SP officials at his residence for five and a half hours and he approved the effort to postpone the elections by saying that this election could not change anything.

STEP BACK ON WAY TO EUROPE
Western press and diplomatic circles assessed the Higher Election Board's (HEB) decision that banned Justice and Development Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, former leader of the outlawed Welfare Party (RP) Necmettin Erbakan, Murat Bozlak and Akin Birdal to join the elections as saying that efforts for democratization were shadowed. Diplomatic circles said that Ankara took a wrong step before Copenhagen Summit at which Turkey will ask for a negotiation date for its full membership to the union.

SUREYYA AYHAN BECOMES FIRST IN 1500 METERS IN ATHLETICS WORLD CUP
Turkish athlete Sureyya Ayhan, the event leader all season, took the 1,500 in 4:02.57 with Russian Tatyana Tomashova a distant second (4:09.74) and became the first in in the Ninth Athletics World Cup held in Madrid, Spain on Saturday.

ADAPAZARI-GEBZE NATURAL GAS COMBIT TO PRODUCE FOUR TIMES ELECTRICITY OF KEBAN DAM
Adapazarý-Gebze natural gas combit circle which was established by ENKA Company and which will mostly meet the need of the electricity of Turkey opened with a ceremony. Turkey will buy the energy which the natural gas combit circle will produce for 16 years. Sarik Tara, the Honourary President of the ENKA Company, said that the electricity which would be produced in those power plants was cheaper than the electricity which was produced in other power plants.

ERDOGAN: ''I DON'T FIND EFFORTS TO POSTPONE ELECTIONS ETHICAL''
AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he does not approve the initiatives aiming at postponing the early elections. ''AK Party won't take part in such a game and that it won't accept the postponement of the elections,'' Tayyip told reporters. When reporters reminded him about the possibility that the movement called as ''the resentful deputies'' can bring onto agenda a constitutional amendment to lift certain bans in order to get the support of AK Party to their initiative, Erdogan said that ''we respect all sorts of views, I wish that demand was not voiced so late. We supported all the provisions of the EU adjustment laws package in order to lift the obstacles in front of democracy.''

NEW YORK MAYOR VISITS ISTANBUL
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, his daughter Emma Bloomberg and 6-person delegation came to Istanbul as the guest of Tourism Minister Mustafa Tasar and Istanbul Mayor Ali Mufit Gurtuna on Saturday. Bloomberg who visited Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia and Sultanahmet Mosques said that he came to Turkey for the first time and was impressed with the beauty of Istanbul.
