AMASYA - New Turkey Party (YTP) leader and former foreign minister Ismail Cem said on Saturday that the decision of Higher Election Board (HEB) about AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan will cause trouble in Turkey's relations with the European Union (EU).
Responding to questions of journalists, Cem said that the decisions of the judiciary can't be disputed as judges give their decisions according to the existing laws, but the laws have to be changed.
''Today persons should not be politically convicted for their earlier statements and activities which are not accepted as offense anymore. Parties go to elections, but their leaders are politically banned. This is not appropriate and this causes trouble on the way to EU. YTP will take a step in the parliament to change these laws. EU membership can only be a dream for Turkey if we still have such a mentality,'' Cem said.
