Erdogan Has To Respect Decision Of Independent Judiciary

ANKARA - Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader, State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli said on Friday about the decision of the Higher Election Board which banned AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to be member of the parliament that ''independent judiciary has given its decision and Erdogan has to respect it.''
Responding to questions of journalists in a tv programme, Bahceli said that he didn't think that there would be any dissolution from AK Party as its administration had to be ready for such a decision of the Higher Election Board.
When asked if AK Party's coming to power would be detrimental to the regime, Bahceli said that everybody has to respect the support extended by the people to any political party. Bahceli said that if the implementations of political parties are against the laws, the independent judiciary is in power.
''I can't say the same thing about HADEP which is perceived as the political flank of the terrorist organization,'' Bahceli said, adding that he would call Erdogan by phone on Saturday.
Bahceli said that carrying out the studies in harmony within the coalition government is useful both for the country, and also for the coalition culture in political aspect, adding that ''the 57th government has been set up as a strong coalition. MHP has fully abided by the protocol of the coalition government. There is a provision in the coalition protocol which is about gathering of the leaders summit. This summit is held once a month which ensures lasting of the government. The 57th goernment has been the longest one among other coalitions.''
Bahceli noted that the 57th government has fulfilled its mission, but it was still in power to carry the country to early elections.
Bahceli said that MHP signed the national programme for adoption of acquis like the government programme and added that the party had to defend all points of it and added that developments apart from the national programme were put into consideration and this was expressed as an imposition of the European Union (EU) government on Turkey.
Bahceli said that MHP always showed its sensitivity on the issues including abolishment of death penalty, education and broadcast in mother tongue and added that those issues could be implemented with their forms as foreseen in the national programme.
Bahceli said, ''publicly saying that this government ended, Europe courageously welcomed our laws, but we want to see the implementations and MHP prevents the implementation is an inappropriate expression to the 38-month coalition partnership.''
Bahceli commented that acquiring foundation minorities as property was not related with the EU, stating that this was not included in the EU criteria. He went on to say that they, as MHP, would not sign a decree which would be brought to the Council of Ministers about this issue.
He said that no political parties proposed to have alliance with MHP at the elections and added that his party did not make such a proposal, either.
