U.S: There Is A New Acceleration About Cyprus Issue, Let's Benefit From That

NEW YORK - The U.S. gave the message to Turkey in the meetings between Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel and U.S. Undersecretaries of State Marc Grossman and Elizabeth Johns that ''there is a new acceleration about Cyprus issue, let's benefit from that.''
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yusuf Buluc said that the American officials told in the meeting that all the rivers flow to a certain direction and this positive course has to be benefited.
European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP) was also taken up in the meeting. Buluc said that the attitude of Turkey has become final with Ankara text, adding that this text was not accepted by Greece and the EU tried to form a new package during EU Sevilla summit.
Stressing that this amendment was not accepted by Turkey, Buluc said that Grossman clarified the attitude of the U.S. in today's meeting.
Buluc said Grossman stated in the meeting that ''we have not invested in Ankara text in vain, the text is still valid. Yet if Turkey can make certain changes in the document in order to ease Greece, it can. Yet this is not an imposition.''
Grossman also discussed the issue of Turkey's membership to the EU with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen and he gave him the message that the U.S. extended support to Turkey.
