ANKARA - Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Motherland Party (ANAP) Mesut Yilmaz said on Tuesday that they were very sorry that Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) applied to the Constitutional Court for the annulment of the most important articles of the European Union (EU) Adjustment Bill. He said, ''we have serious suspicions that current government will continue as an election government following this initiative of the MHP.''
Speaking at a ceremony held in party headquarters, Yilmaz said as ANAP they considered EU membership as Turkey's most important target.
Yilmaz said they adopted this as the most important target of Turkey for the future of coming generations not only for today's generations, adding that his party did its best to make Turkey reach this target.
Recalling that adjustment bill was legalized last month, Yilmaz said, ''Turkey took a very important step on the way to EU membership. We felt sorry for the application of coalition partner MHP for the annulment of this law as we are in an effort to prepare necessary arrangements and regulations about this.''
Yilmaz said, ''everybody should know that all those efforts are in vain. We have serious concerns that current government will continue as an election government. I will talk about this with the Prime Minister and convey our concerns in this respect.''
