INDIANAPOLIS - Turkey beat China 94-86 in a classification game (9-12) of the World Basketball Championship on Friday in Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the United States.
Mehmet Okur scored 24 points with eight rebounds and Hidayet Turkoglu had 21 points and nine assists. Ibrahim Kutluay scored 15 and Huseyin Besok 10.
Turkey used a seven-point run early in the fourth quarter to open a 10-point lead, 74-64, then held on.
China was led by Yao Ming with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Hu Weidong made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points, Menk Bater scored 17 and Wei Liu 14. China, plagued by turnovers throughout the tournament, committed 18 that Turkey converted into 22 points.
Turkey will take on Russia on Saturday for places 8-9.
