Annan Meets With Denktas In Paris

PARIS - The U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan met with President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in Paris on Friday to evaluate the recent developments on Cyprus issue.
When Denktas was asked if he expected a new development on Cyprus issue, he said, ''we will see. We will listen to the views of the Secretary General.''
Annan will meet Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides following his tete-a-tete meeting with Denktas.
The U.N. Secretary General will later meet the U.N. Cyprus Special Envoy Alvaro de Soto, Clerides and Denktas at luncheon.
Diplomatic sources said Annan is expected to convey his views, regarding solution of Cyprus question, verbally to the sides instead of presenting them documents, and will be in an effort to understand the views of the leaders in this respect.
The same sources said Annan's attitude in bringing the leaders together aimed at further motivating and accelerating the ongoing talks on the island.
