NEW YORK - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel will come to New York on September 10 to attend United Nations (U.N.) General Assembly.
Gurel will represent Turkey in the commemoration ceremonies to be held in New York on September 11, 2002, the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States.
Foreign Minister Gurel, who will listen to the speech of U.S. President George Bush at the U.N. General Assembly on September 12 in which Bush will explain the plans related with Iraq, will deliver a speech at the general assembly on September 13.
Gurel will hold bilateral contacts with his counterparts.
Diplomatic sources said that Gurel was trying to schedule his bilateral contacts and that he would mainly meet with his counterparts in European Union (EU) countries.
Gurel will also attend Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) ministerial board and D-8 meetings as well as a meeting related with Bosnia Herzegovina.
Foreign Minister Gurel is expected to return to Turkey on September 17 and 18.
