Turker: No New Commitment To I.M.F.

IZMIR - State Minister Masum Turker said on Thursday that no new commitments would be given to International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking at Democratic Left Party (DSP) Izmir Provincial Chairmanship, Turker said he met with the IMF and World Bank officials two days ago, stressing that it would be out of question for Turkey to give other commitments apart from those given.
''We have clearly pointed out that current program would be completed with existing commitments. The amount of the debt was definite as we made an agreement with the IMF and as we called for support to shift that rubble. As there will not be any increase in debts, we have pointed out that there will not be any commitment apart from the commitments that were stated,'' Turker said.
Turker said during his meeting with the World Bank officials, they particularly discussed social policies in the next term program to decrease social risk caused by globalization in the world.
When asked if IMF called for a new commitment from him, Turker said, ''there is no need for them to call for new commitment. We have not yet come to a point to implement the existing system in all sections of the society. Laws and reforms were issued. Some sections may have expectations as we don't know the reforms well. We said let us be in an effort to implement the existing reforms instead of discussing and programming new reforms.''
Defending that next governments would continue the economic program and that there would not be any deviation, Turker said, ''whoever comes he would not be able to exceed the budget because we enabled it with the reforms we made.''
