Gurel: There Is Uncertainty About Full Membership Negotiations

BRUSSELS - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel said on Wednesday that 'there was ''uncertainty and hesitations'' about opening of Turkey's European Union (EU) full membership negotiations.
Following his meeting with Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Annemie Neyts, Gurel told reporters that they were trying to overcome the uncertainty and hesitations.
Gurel said, ''the EU states that the constitutional amendments and legal changes were a further step. They accept that these are sufficient to begin full membership talks with Turkey although they do not make clear statements. There is still uncertainty and hesitations about opening of Turkey's EU full membership negotiations. We are trying to overcome them.''
They stressed the importance of fight against terrorist organizations like PKK, KADEK and DHKP-C during their meeting, Gurel noted.
Gurel added, ''As death sentence was abolished in Turkey, we asked them to fulfil extradition proceedings of Fehriye Erdal as soon as possible. They will probably do it. Because, they have no other choice than taking it into consideration seriously.''
