Constitutional Court Expected To Take A Decision About Closure Case Against H.A.D.E.P.

ANKARA - The Constitutional Court is expected to take a decision about the closure case against the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) in the new judicial year.
The rapporteur of the case completed his report.
Constitutional Court Chief Judge Mustafa Bumin will distribute the report to members of the Constitutional Court.
Later, the Constitutional Court delegation will debate whether or not to take the case on the agenda.
During his term in office as chief prosecutor of Supreme Court of Appeals Vural Savas filed a lawsuit against the HADEP on January 29, 1999. Following retirement of Savas, Sabih Kanadoglu was appointed as new chief prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals.
Kanadoglu made his verbal statements on January 17, 2002, and HADEP officials made their verbal defenses on January 30, 2002.
In the indictment, it was claimed that there had been an organic tie between the HADEP and the terrorist organization PKK.
It said, ''like the People's Labour Party (HEP) and the Democracy Party (DEP) which were closed down previously, the HADEP has been under control of the PKK. The HADEP staged some illegal activities in line with directives and orders of the PKK. Congresses of the HADEP became fields in which demonstrations were held in favor of PKK and its head Abdullah Ocalan.''
The indictment noted that the HADEP should be closed down on charges of ''becoming focal point of actions targeting inseparable integrity of the state with its country and nation'' in accordance with Articles 78, 79, 80, 81 and 82 of the Political Parties Law and Articles 68 and 69 of the Constitution.
