Zorlu: Some Elements Of Taliban And Al-qaeda Are On Lookout For Opportunity To Stage Terrorist Acts

KABUL - International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Commander Major General Hilmi Akin Zorlu said on Wednesday that some elements of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda organizations are on the lookout for an opportunity to stage terrorist acts by destroying the existing atmosphere of stability in order to prove that they still exist.
Holding monthly press conference, Zorlu said that some members of former Afghan prime minister Gulbettin Hikmetyar's Hizb-i Islam party were acting with solidarity with Taliban and Al-Qaeda organizations to weaken influence of the transition government.
Explaining that ISAF units carried out nearly forty patrolling missions in Kabul every day, Zorlu said that twenty-five of those missions were carried out jointly by the Afghan police.
Stressing that terrorism threat should not be ignored before eradication of Taliban and Al-Qaeda organizations' activities, Zorlu said that wages of Afghan police and military personnel should be paid regularly to have them fulfil their duties effectively.
Noting that refugees who returned to Afghanistan should be offered job opportunities, Zorlu warned that if countries which promised to give financial aid to Afghanistan wouldn't keep their word, economic and financial problems might occur in the future.
Zorlu added that investigation into assassination of Vice President Haci Abdulkadir was underway and that twenty-two of the twenty-six people who had been detained under the investigation were released.
