ANKARA - Chief of General Staff Huseyin Kivrikoglu whose term in office will officially end on Aug. 30 announced that he would not run as a candidate from any political party.
Kivrikoglu paid a farewell visit to Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi on Tuesday. Answering reporters' questions after the visit, Kivrikoglu said he would not run as a candidate from any political party. Commenting on the possibility of postponing the elections, Kivrikoglu said this would lead to chaos in the country. ''This is a political question, but our Parliament decided to hold the elections and it would be the best thing to do to implement this decision. Chaos is not something that is desired by anyone,'' he said.
Responding to another question, Kivrikoglu said he cannot predict what kind of a political picture would be formed after the elections. He remarked that the Turkish nation would form the best government using its common sense. ''The Turkish nation will form a Parliament that Turkey deserves,'' he added.
