ANKARA - State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Devlet Bahceli, who also acts as the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said on Sunday, ''a political party that will carry the People's Democracy Party (HADEP) to the parliament, should undertake responsibility of the HADEP.''
Speaking at a television programme on the private TV8 Channel, Bahceli said, ''it is meaningless to escape from the elections. We have to rely on the will of our people. Our government's last and most meaningful duty should be holding a healthy and peaceful election.''
Responding another question, Bahceli said, ''terrorist organization PKK's head terrorist Abdullah Ocalan should not be given privilege. His supporters have been serving their imprisonment terms in F-type prisons while he has been staying at Imrali Island prison.''
When asked about Turkey's European Union (EU) full membership process, Bahceli said, ''Turkey's taking a full membership negotiation schedule is not possible. We should not be a Turkey trying to do everyting that the EU wants. We should be a country explaining its own views. Also I want to ask a question: Will this parliament convene and give up Cyprus? An answer should be found to this question.''
Responding a question about Islamic-style headscarves, Bahceli said, ''this problem should be solved. However, it is used as a tool for political purposes. Such an approach will lead Turkey to calamity. This problem should be solved with a compromising method.''
