Dervis: I Should Have Not Said ' I Join You ' To Ozkan Before Thinking Carefully

ANKARA - Kemal Dervis who joined the Republican People's Party (CHP) after resigning as the state minister for economy, said late on Friday, ''I should have not said Husamettin Ozkan that I would join their party before thinking carefully. This caused problems.''
Speaking to Turkish-CNN, Dervis said, ''I made a serious mistake before thinking carefully and comprehending how it develops. I should have not said Mr. Husamettin Ozkan at Celal Gole's house that I would join their party. This casued problems and annoyed me. If I had said on that day I wanted to think about it, maybe my efforts for creating an alliance among the social democratic parties would be more successful, there would have not been any problem in bringing the left parties together and at least there would have not been any question mark in minds of people. If I had not said Mr.Ozkan that I would join their party in order to immediately remove political uncertainty, we would have recorded progress in a better process. It was a mistake.''
Dervis noted that the CHP adopted a real competitive market economy under equal conditions.
Responding a question about possible coalitions after elections, Dervis said he thought that coalitions which were formed by people who had different mentalities could not be successful, adding, ''I do not accept any responsibility in such coalitions.''
Responding a question about Islamic-style headscarf, Dervis said he thought it appropriate for women to act upon their personal decisions if their manner of dressing did not affect their job.
Dervis said, ''I am in favor of individual freedom. However, there are also laws and rules. Those who demand individual freedom should also respect different life and dressing of their friends.''
