BERLIN - New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said on Thursday, ''like German government, we have some reservations about a possible military operation against Iraq.''
In an interview with the German News Agency (DPA), Cem said, ''no one is pleased with the fire in the house of his/her neighbor. We are very sensitive about the issue of Iraq. Turkey attributes great importance to concerns of the United States; however, Turkey suffered great loss due to the Gulf War.''
Referring to Turkey's European Union (EU) full membership process, Cem said, ''we expect the EU to set a date at its summit in Copenhagen on December 12 for the beginning of full membership negotiations with Turkey. I believe that German government would support Turkey.''
''If we come to power following the general elections, we plan to start a series of reforms for the EU full membership. We aim at reviving Turkish economy by encouraging investments and private initiatives and by removing bureaucratic obstacles. We attribute great importance to German investors to this end,'' he added.
