Six Deputies Resign From D.S.P.

ANKARA - Six out of nine opponent deputies of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) resigned from on Thursday.
Ali Arabaci, Uluc Gurkan, Emin Karaa, Sadik Kirbas, Ertugrul Kumcuoglu and Ahmet Arkan held a press conference, and announced their decision to resign from the DSP.
Speaking at the press conference, Karaa said, ''we proposed to convene extraordinary congress of the DSP; however, we failed. If our proposal had been accepted, the DSP would have not experienced such a dissolution process, and central-left would have been united. It was Prime Minister and DSP leader Bulent Ecevit's historical responsibility to provide this unification. However, it became clear that the DSP would not join such a unification. Prime Minister Ecevit did not have any persuasive reason to reject it. As a result, we decided to resign from the DSP on the basis of our belief that self-sacrificing steps should be taken for unification in central-left.''
Meanwhile, Tahir Kose, Bayram Firat Dayanikli and Cengiz Gulec from the opposition group preferred to remain at the DSP.
