Jewish Museum To Be Opened In Izmir

IZMIR - The Culture Ministry will open a Jewish Museum in Havra Street of historical Kemaralti Bazaar in western province of Izmir.
Culture Minister Suat Caglayan told A.A correspondent on Tuesday, ''we owe Jewish people. We should not forget the fact that if we can put pressure on the United States to take measures against Armenian lobby's allegations on so-called genocide, we owe Jewish lobby this. Jewish lobby has been defending Turkey with great determination.''
Meanwhile, Moris Bencuya, the chairman of Jewish community in Izmir, said that the museum would make a valuable contribution to the religious belief tourism.
''This museum will be a symbol of our 500-year friendship. It will make an important contribution to Turkey's religious belief tourism,'' he said.
Bencuya thanked Culture Minister Caglayan for his initiative.
Tombstones of the Jews who had lived in Aegean Region, will be displayed in the museum.
The museum will also include a library about religious rituals and cultures of the Jewish people.
