ANKARA - Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said late on Thursday that when they tried to form an alliance with other parties in the elections, most of Democratic Left Party (DSP) members would oppose them.
Ecevit responded to questions at a program live broadcast on private NTV station.
Expressing his views about alliance and leadership, Ecevit said that ''there were countless evidence that he was not stuck on the chair.''
Ecevit noted that he took the risks related with his political career during his former resignations and said, ''when my behaviors are being evaluated, it will be an injustice to consider some others as equal to me.''
DSP's base was very different from that of former Republican People's Party (CHP), Ecevit stated.
Ecevit said, ''when we try to form an alliance with other parties in the elections, most of DSP members will oppose us. As I have stated before, we are a party attributing great importance to ideological consistency. If we make concessions of this, we will lose not gain.''
He was trying to follow a consistent line according to the developments, Ecevit noted.
Ecevit pointed out that he hoped to contribute to future of DSP.
Drawing attention that a short time was left to the elections, Ecevit reiterated that he did not think of withdrawing from leadership.
Evaluating claims that ''resignations from DSP aimed to make him quit his post during a probable operation on Iraq, he said, ''there can be circles thinking this way in the United States. But U.S. government did not give such an impression on me. U.S. government welcomed our attitude especially after September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States. So, I did not feel a negativity from the U.S. government.''
Ecevit said that he would have face to face dialogue with the people during the election campaigns.
Ecevit said that he held a meeting with former Interior Minister Saadettin Tantan and added that Tantan would support them.
