BAYKAL'S VICTORY
Republican People's Party (CHP) severed relations between former State Minister Kemal Dervis and New Turkey Party (YTP) with its call. Dervis said, ''I am no more with the YTP. We will continue our efforts with Baykal.'' When he received a negative response to his efforts for a unity in the left from YTP, it was noted that Dervis ''would not join any political party.'' However, Dervis separated his path with YTP and made a political preference towards CHP. Dervis said, ''we will continue our efforts with Baykal. We should not waste even one social democratic vote. I find Baykal's call for unity very positive. Not only the politicians, but also everybody should help us.''
BARZANI IN BLACK LIST OF TSK
Turkey suspended relations with Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (IKDP). Especially, Turkish Armed Forces is very uneasy about Barzani. The biggest problem results from Barzani's support to the terrorist organization PKK in Northern Iraq despite all the warnings. Barzani, who provides logistic support to PKK, is in the black list of Turkish Armed Forces. The embargo that Turkey imposed on Barzani was reflected in the U.S. press. Turkey's including Barzani in the black list caused difficulties for the meeting of Iraqi opposition groups in the United States. New York Times daily wrote that Bush administration was hit severely as Barzani could not go to the United States for the meeting.
STOCK EXCHANGE FEARED OF NON-INVOLVEMENT OF DERVIS IN POLITICS
Markets were shaken on Thursday due to the statement of New Turkey Party (YTP) which closed its doors to a unity in the left and the words of Gaziantep Mayor Celal Dogan that ''Kemal Dervis would not involve in politics.' The stock exchange decreased 3.6 percent while the U.S. dollar increased by 40 thousand Turkish liras (TL).

HE SHOULD COME FOR PROGRAM
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal sent a special message to former State Minister Kemal Dervis: ''CHP is the strongest candidate government. Dervis is seeing this. If he wants to continue the economic program, the address he should come to is CHP.''
OFFSIDE OF THE YEAR
Kemal Dervis acted together with Ismail Cem and Husamettin Ozkan when resignations from the Democratic Left Party (DSP) started. Dervis, who met with Democrat Turkey Party (DTP) leader Mehmet Ali Bayar during the formation of YTP, had two meetings with Bayar on the plane. However, Dervis defined alliance between YTP and DTP as ''a rightist alliance'' and criticized it. Thus, Dervis caused an offside situation for Cem and Ozkan.
FIRST PROPOSAL TO ECEVIT
Kemal Dervis, who could not achieve a unity between New Turkey Party (YTP) and Republican People's Party (CHP), now directed his route to Democratic Left Party (DSP). State Minister Fikret Unlu gave the first signal to Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit for the unity which is considered probable by CHP leader Deniz Baykal. Unlu said, ''Dervis still respect you very much. He is still hopeful for a unity in the left. He respects to your leadership in the left.''

STRONG RIVAL TO THY
Dutch airlines KLM will start domestic flights in Turkey. KLM, which has made a cooperation with Fly Airlines, will arrange flights from Istanbul to Ankara, Izmir, Trabzon, Kars, Van, Diyarbakir, Erzurum, Adana, Gaziantep, Antalya, Bodrum and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). It is said that the prices will be kept below the tariffs of THY.
AGAIN CANDIDATE WEARING HEADSCARF FROM SP
On contrary to Justice and Development Party (AK Party) which had earlier announced that they would not nominate any candidates for deputyship who were wearing headscarves, Felicity Party (SP) shed light to people wearing headscarves. SP deputy leader Lutfu Esengul said that they would take into consideration merits not headscarf when they were nominating people for deputyship and noted, ''wearing a headscarf is the right of a person.''
DHKP-C CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY
Istanbul Police Chief Hasan Ozdemir, who suffered from a cracked rib due to an attack on him in Rotterdam, stressed that some leftist publications and web-pages of illegal organizations noted that the attack on him was staged by terrorist organization DHKP-C. Ozdemir said, ''in these web-pages, it is clearly stated that the attack on me was staged by this terrorist organization.''

NEW RESIGNATIONS FROM ANAP
Motherland Party (ANAP) is experiencing difficult days due to the resignations. After the resignations of Rifat Serdaroglu and Ibrahim Gurdal who joined New Turkey Party (YTP), Murat Basesgioglu who is expected to join Justice and Development Party (AK Party) will resign from ANAP on Friday. Sources said that Isilay Saygin was also in contact with AK Party. There are divisions in group of Erkan Mumcu who wants the leadership of ANAP.
FIRE IN MARMARIS SPREADS QUICKLY
Fire which broke out in Cetibeli village of Marmaris township of southwestern Mugla province destroyed 300 hectares of forest. The fire which broke out on Thursday evening spread quickly to a broad forested area due to the strong winds. A total of 1100 people, four helicopters, 60 spraying vehicles and eight bulldozers are working to extinguish the fire.

CEM: ''WE ARE FIRST IN LEFT''
New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said, ''my aim is to establish an alliance with the society.'' Cem had responded negatively to Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal's call for unification of leftist groups under CHP's umbrella. Cem said that there had been unification in left twice and added that both of them were not beneficial. Cem added that according to the surveys, they were first party among the leftist parties.
BODRUM UNDERWATER ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM ROBBED
Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum was robbed for the first time in its 39-year history by unidentified person or persons. A total of 16 golden and 25 copper coins which were exhibited in 1400-year chapel were robbed from the museum. Bodrum Underwater Archeology Museum Director Oguz Alpozen said that he felt very sad about the robbery and added, ''the stolen items are worth 3 billion Turkish lira, but their moral value are very high. We will solve this planned robbery which was made to harm the museum.'' Officials said that a full investigation is under way.

THICK CLOUD OF DUST IN SAKARYA
Wounds have not been healed in Sakarya on the third anniversary of the devastating earthquake which hit Marmara Region on August 17, 1999. Three years have passed since the disaster and other cities like Istanbul, Kocaeli and Duzce which were also hit by the earthquake were healed. However, complaints in Adapazari which was affected the most by the earthquake do not end. The city is like a construction area and is covered with a thick cloud of dust. Reconstruction works are not being accelerated due to lack of appropriations. People keeps municipality responsible for this while the municipality keeps the government and World Bank as responsible.
REFUSAL TO BAYKAL
New Turkey Party (YTP) Central Executive Board issued a statement and returned the call of Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal. YTP said that it would take part in November 3 elections with its own party and identity. Touching on State Minister Kemal Dervis, YTP said, ''we are behind the promise we gave at the beginning.''
SPECIAL CARPET FOR BUSH
The special carpet which was produced in central Sivas province and which had the picture of World Trade Organization which collapsed due to September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States will be sent to U.S. President George Bush. Leyla Bicer and Fadime Aytac, who wove the carpet, said, ''we remember the terrorist attack when we are weaving the carpet.''

YTP: ''DERVIS WAS LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE TO LEAVE''
Former State Minister Kemal Dervis's statement that he would not join New Turkey Party (YTP) caused confusion in the party. YTP leader Ismail Cem said, ''security is very important for our party. We began this journey as a party in which our people trust and we are continuing our journey by getting strong.'' Cem added that they would make a statement related to the latest developments on Friday. YTP Deputy Secretary General Metin Sahin said that they felt sad about Dervis's statement and added that they condemned the statement.
FORMULA-1 TO BE HELD IN TURKEY
Bernie Ecclestone, the chief executive of International Formula 1 Organization said that Formula-1 will be held for 99.9 percent in Turkey and added that but he would come again for the city where Formula-1 would be held. Ecclestone, who came to western Izmir province on Thursday, had a lunch with Governor Alaaddin Yuksel. He said that he was very impressed by Ephesus Archaic city. Ecclestone said that they would decide where to organize Formula-1 in Turkey within few months and noted that there was great interest in Turkey to hold Formula-1.
