AMAZING BARGAINING
When Deniz Baykal, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) called New Turkey Party (YTP) to unite within CHP, Kemal Dervis told both YTP leader Ismail Cem and Baykal to withdraw. ''Please open the way for unification. If not, I will not join either of you,'' Dervis gave the message to both of them. YTP leader Cem said that he was ready to withdraw. Kemal Dervis is expected to announce his political decision in the news conference he is expected to hold today.

SEZER OPENS PARTIAL ANNULMENT CASE AGAINST ADJUSTMENT LAWS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer applied to the Constitutional Court requesting for the annulment of the ninth article of the EU adjustment laws package foreseeing fine to be paid by radio stations and tv channels in case they violate the Press Law. Sezer said that the articles whose cancellation he is applying for are against article 26 of the Constitution which defines the right to access information, article 28 which defines freedom of press and article 13 which defines the requirements of a democratic society.

Husamettin Ozkan, the deputy leader of the New Turkey Party (YTP), who took initiative after getting the information that Kemal Dervis could leave politics, proposed the post of prime ministry to Dervis with a unification within the structure of Republican People's Party (CHP). Dervis said in his part that he does not want to be the leader, adding a rotational prime ministry can take place between CHP leader Baykal and YTP leader Cem.

BAYKAL CALLS YTP TO GET UNITED
Deniz Baykal, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) sent warm messages yesterday regarding the unification with the New Turkey Party (YTP). He said that ''CHP was ready to unite with YTP. The method of unification is not important. The thing that matters is to reach an agreement on principle, but we don't tolerate tactics.''

DERVIS'S PREFERENCE IS CHP FOR 99 PERCENT
Sources say that Kemal Dervis who will announce his political decision today, will probably join the Republican People's Party (CHP). CHP leader Deniz Baykal called YTP and Dervis to get united within CHP yesterday. Dervis said that he would evaluate the call of Deniz Baykal.

OZDEMIR HAS FRACTURE IN HIS RIB
Istanbul Security Director Hasan Ozdemir, who was attacked by members of the terrorist organization Revolutionary Left (Dev-Sol) in the Netherlands where he went to watch the match between Turkish soccer team Fenerbahce and the Dutch team Feyenoord Rotterdam, has a fracture in his left rib. Ozdemir said that the Dutch police captured two persons and that his mobile phone, which he dropped during the incident, was found on these persons. Ozdemir said that the aim of the attack was not to steal his purse or mobile phone, but to take revenge on him.

ANAP WORRIED ABOUT TEN PERCENT THRESHOLD
Resignations from the Motherland Party (ANAP) started due to the uneasiness about Yýlmaz administration and the worry that the ANAP would not pass the ten percent threshold in the early elections. The number of ANAP's seats in the parliament decreased to 77 by the resignations of Rýfat Serdaroglu and Ibrahim Gurdal. Yasar Topcu, Murat Basesgioglu and Yucel Seckiner are also expected to resign from the party.

ALBANIAN TROOP TO BE CHARGED IN ISAF
One Albanian troop will be charged in the Turkish Battalion unit in Afghanistan to contribute to the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) commanded by Turkey. Land Forces Command's Secretariat General said that one Albanian troop will take part in the Turkish battalion unit to contribute to ISAF in line with the decision taken by the Albanian government. Noting that the Albanian military unit is composed of 30 military officers and soldiers, Secretariat General added that a ceremony would be held at 17.00 local time in Mamak garrison in Ankara on Thursday to see off the Albanian troop.

HIGH SCHOOLS TO BE FOUR YEARS
National Education Minister Necdet Tekin said that preparations to make the secondary education to be four years have been completed, adding that the high schools will gradually be four years as of the 2003-2004 education year. Tekin stressed that the burden and problems of high school students would lessen that way.

ISTANBUL GETS GOOD MARK FOR FORMULA 1
Istanbul got good mark from Formula 1's chief executive Bernie Ecclestone who came to Istanbul to see if it is a good city to host Formula 1 race in 2005. Ecclestone said in a news conference that Istanbul deserved to host the race. He said that he liked Olimpiyat Stadium very much, adding that Turkey also deserved to host the Olympiads with the sports facilities it has. Ecclestone will now examine the race tracks in Izmir and Antalya.

AK PARTY CELEBRATES ITS FIRST FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY
AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in the first foundation anniversary ceremony of AK Party yesterday that ''when we come to power, we won't put pressure on the society.'' Erdogan stressed that his party won't do politics by manipulating religion which causes discrimination among people, adding that his party gives importance to ''national peace.''

CIVIL SERVANTS TO SIT AT COLLECTIVE BARGAINING TABLE
Civil servants will attend collective bargaining negotiations for the first time today. The first demand of civil servants will be meeting of the 32 percent of real loss in their wages. If a consensus is reached in the bargaining process which has to be resulted within 15 days, an agreement will be signed between the sides and submitted to the Council of Ministers. If no agreement is reached, then ''Reconciliation Committee'' will take initiative.

BAYKAL'S CALL STEERS DERVIS TOWARDS CHP
The call of Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal to New Turkey Party (YTP) to get united within the structure of CHP, steered Kemal Dervis, who searches for a unification within the central left, to this party. YTP was worried about the statement of Dervis who said that he found this call positive. YTP officials Husamettin Ozkan and Ismail Cem tried to persuade Dervis to join YTP till late at night. Dervis will announce his decision today.
