ANKARA (A.A) - 12.08.2002 - State Minister Masum Turker said on Sunday that he assumed the political responsibility of the economic programme.
''It was earlier claimed that there was no such political responsibility for the economic programme,'' Turker said adding that he will make accounting for the programme.
Speaking in a news conference, Turker said that the first condition of sustainable growth is ensuring price stability, adding that coordination in all economic units will be provided in implementation of the economic programme.
''The monetary policy of Central Bank and the exchange regime will be supported with same resolution,'' he said adding that Production and Financial Consultation Council, which was formed to support national economy and national production will convene soon.
''The payments forseen in the programme will continued to be made, no other payments which are not foreseen in the programme will be made,'' said Turker.
Turker stressed that the implementation of social policies of the economic programme such as health and education will continue to be implemented, adding that there was no problem in borrowing.
Turker said that the reform undertaken in banking sector will continue, pointing out that the relations with IMF and World Bank would continue in the same way.
Turker said that he would meet with former state minister Kemal Dervis in Treasury at 12.00 local time on Monday.
Responding to questions of journalists, Turker said that he supported the economic programme since it was adopted. Turker noted that if real economy and economy at micro level becomes functional, the results will be to the advantage of the society.
Turker said that the basis of the economic programme is to make the economy abide with the international standards.
