ISTANBUL, EUROPE'S SIXTH BEST CITY
TraveL Leisure magazine which is published monthly and read by high income level people who like travelling, published a recent survey which made Istanbul the sixth best city of Europe with 84.29 points. Istanbul also came the eleventh best city of the world. The survey results showed that five hotels in Istanbul were the best 50 hotels in Europe. These are Four Seasons, Ciragan Palace Kempinksi, Swissotel, Hyatt regency and Ceylan Inter-Continental.

OZILHAN:''DERVIS WAS LATE TO RESIGN''
Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) Chairman Tuncay Ozilhan said that the uncertainty about Kemal Dervis' resignation troubles the economy recently and that he believed Dervis was late to resign. ''Dervis successfully implemented the economic program after the two crises. He fought bravely and destroyed the taboos,'' he said.

DERVIS'S INSISTENCE
Kemal Dervis who resigned from his post yesterday, insists on searching for unity among left parties until September 11 without joining any political party. He hired an office in Ankara to this end. Dervis told his close friends that it is not enough for him to be the deputy of any political party which gets 12 percent of the votes.

CHP WON'T BEG DERVIS TO JOIN THE PARTY AGAIN
Deniz Baykal, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the party itself is not very warm to the idea of requesting Kemal Dervis to join the party like they were before. CHP administration thinks that ''CHP is the growing party in the left and if Dervis sees this reality, he will come and join our party. If he goes to another party, he will divide the left. We will not beg him to join CHP.''

BAHCELI:''SIX PARTIES JOINED EFFORTS TO SAVE PKK''
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli had serious accusations against other political parties which passed the EU adjustment bill which abolished the death penalty. He said that the PKK's main goal was to abolish death penalty to save terrorist chief Ocalan. ''Six parties worked to serve this purpose,'' Bahceli said. He also stated that Ocalan should be kept in an F-type prison.

ECONOMY GIVEN TO THE HANDS OF MASUM TURKER
Democratic Left Party (DSP) deputy Masum Turker who has a journalism background was appointed as the state minister in charge of Treasury after Kemal Dervis' resignation yesterday. Turker's priority in economy will be to increase production. He also stated that the economic program would continue. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit indicated that resignation of Dervis would not create any problems in Turkey's relations with the World Bank or the IMF.

DERVIS RESIGNS
Kemal Dervis made public his resignation yesterday following his Friday's meeting with Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. Noting that he launches efforts to prevent political dividedness, Dervis said that ''Mr. Ecevit tod me that it was not proper for me to continue launching efforts to this end and to remain in the government.'' Meanwhile Masum Turker from Democratic Left Party (DSP) has been appointed in place of Kemal Dervis.

BAHCELI ACCUSES SIX PARTIES
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli who defends the view that the separatist terrorist organization and its supporters were awarded with the abolition of death penalty, claimed that the political parties which supported the EU adjustment laws package, can also serve the terrorist organization's target of releasing Abdullah Ocalan, the head terrorist.

CEM INVITES DERVIS TO JOIN YTP
New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said after resignation of Kemal Dervis from State Ministry yesterday that Mr. Dervis has contributed a lot to the country. Mr. Dervis's joining YTP will bring a new momentum to YTP, Cem noted. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said in his part that Dervis contributed significantly to overcoming economic problems of the country and thanked Dervis. Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli, on the other hand said that Dervis's resignation came very late.

93 PERSONS DIE DUE TO DEATH FAST TO DATE
Fatma Bilgin, another inmate who was on death fast to protest the opening of F type prisons, died in Ankara Numune Hospital yesterday. Bilgin, who was 30 years and who started death fasting in Malatya prison, was taken to Ankara Numune Hospital on August 1, 2002. The number of persons who died so far
because of death fast reached 93.

CILLER STARTS HER FIRST PUBLIC MEETING IN KONYA
True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller who said that the government does not fulfil its promises, called people in central Konya province to cast votes for her party. Ciller noted that when DYP comes to power, farmers and tradesmen will be comfortable.

DERVIS TO WORK FOR NOV.4
Kemal Dervis yesterday resigned from his post as the state minister in charge of economy. Although he hasn't revealed which party he's planning to join, Dervis sent political messages to both political leaders and voters. Dervis warned everyone against the picture that will be formed after the elections on Nov.4 ''I won't do politics for the sake of politics. I want to be in a political environment which can produce economic solutions,'' Dervis said.

CEM CALLS ON DERVIS TO JOIN YTP
New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem called on Kemal Dervis to join his party adding that this would add more strength to his party. ''Dervis expressed his closeness to the YTP several times in his statements,'' Cem said. He also indicated that he, Husamettin Ozkan and Kemal Dervis had planned forming the YTP.
