HAMBURG (A.A) - 10.08.2002 - German Interior Minister Otto Schily said on Saturday that Vural Oger, the Executive Board President of Germany's leading travel agency Oger Tours is an extraordinary person.
Schily attended the night organized upon the promotion of Vural Oger's book ''My Germany, My Turkey'' and said that ''Oger is both a real German and a real Turkish. Many people can't do that.''
Schily said that those people who want to know the history of Turkey and its relations with Germany and Europe have to read Oger's book, adding that Oger is not only a successful businessmen, but he is also well informed about issues of immigration.
Noting that 60,000 Turkish firms ensured employment for 327,000 persons in Germany, Schily said that the sales of these firms are approximately 28 billion Euro.
Schily said that Oger founded a bridge between the two countries by establishing German-Turkish Foundation, adding that Turkey should not miss the chance of coming closer to Europe. ''This is not only to the interest of Turkey, but to Germany as well, we must launch efforts to make Turkey more European.''
Upon questions of journalists, Otto Schily also noted that the developments in Turkey are promising.
Oger said in his part that no sufficient courses are given in German schools about the history of Turkey, adding that Germany had to take measures to make the Turkish people who came to Germany in 1950s from rural parts to integrate with the German society.
