JERUSALEM (A.A) - 07.08.2002 - Energy and Natural Sources Minister Zeku Cakan had a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres on Wednesday as part of his contacts in Israel.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that sales of Manavgat River's waters to Israel was the main topic of the meeting.
Peres said that he hoped Syria soon would greenlight the construction of a water pipeline from Turkey to Saudi Arabia adding that such a pipeline would provide water to all the people in the region.
Cakan said that Peres played an important role in the implementation of this project. He also added that Turkey could provide more than 50 million cubic meters of water, which is the amount agreed on.
Yesterday, Turkey and Israel had reached an agreement which proposes that Turkey would sell annually 50 million cubic meters of water to Israel for 20 years.
