ANKARA (A.A) - 06.08.2002 - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Sukru Sina Gurel left for Jordan on Tuesday on a one-day visit.
Speaking at Ankara's Esenboga Airport, Gurel said regional issues would be discussed during his talks.
Gurel said, ''as you know, Jordan had held contacts with the United States on regional issues on the highest level. This visit will enable us to evaluate those issues and take up regional issues together with friendly Jordan.''
Responding to a question about Iraq, Gurel said talking about a joint action plan with Jordan was out of question at this stage.
Gurel is expected to meet King Abdallah, Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher.
Gurel, who left for Jordan for political contacts with the Jordanian officials, will also exchange views regarding the recent situation in the region.
Iraq as well as Cyprus are expected to be brought onto the agenda during the contacts of Gurel. Gurel will brief Jordanian side about the recent developments on Cyprus and call for support to Turkish thesis.
Gurel is expected to return to Turkey in the evening hours.
