ISTANBUL (A.A) - 04.08.2002 - True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller said on Sunday that the early elections to be held on November 3, 2002, should result in stability.
Holding a press conference at the DYP Headquarters in Istanbul, Ciller said, ''Turkey has gained a great esteem recently. Parliament's taking a decision to hold the early elections with the votes of nearly 450 deputies is a victory in our democracy. Later, our parliament has achieved another success, and approved the European Union (EU) reforms package. Turkey has lost a long time to approve the package, because the package was reduced to only one article. That article was execution of death sentence given to Abdullah Ocalan, the head of terrorist organization PKK.''
Calling on all non-governmental organizations, press organs and people to put a civil pressure on the parliament, Ciller stressed that Turkey needed stability, and that early elections to be held on November 3, 2002, should result in stability.
''Therefore, it is extremely important to make the necessary changes in the Election Law and in the Political Parties Law. As you know, DYP proposed to implement a two-round election system. This system has become inevitable to settle stability in Turkey,'' she said.
Responding a question, Ciller said that the DYP would support the labour security bill.
