ANKARA (A.A) - 03.08.2002 - New Turkey Party (YTP) leader Ismail Cem said on Saturday that adoption of the European Union (EU) reform package brought a new opportunity in front of Turkey regarding the issue of accelerating EU membership process and opening accession negotiations.
Speaking to the A.A, Cem said that they had achieved the most important previous stage of EU process with declaration of Turkeys candidacy at the Helsinki Summit in 1999.
Stressing that everything for achievement of a similar success now at the Copenhagen Summit depended on Turkey, Cem said, ''those adopted reform laws should be put into practice in coming months, especially after November 3.''
''Representation of Turkey by well-educated and experienced prime minister and government members following the early elections to be held on November 3, 2002 is of great importance in regard to acceleration of full membership process,'' he said.
Cem added, ''if Turkey can achieve such a renewal in the early elections, it will record a great progress not only for the EU membership, but also for its future. Turkey has the necessary power to achieve this.''
