SECRET PATRIOT TEAM IN ANKARA
A 15-member U.S. delegation composed of security officials and experts came to Ankara last Friday and started Patriot shield studies. The American team stays in Ankara Sheraton Hotel. The Patriot team tries to establish missile shield in Turkey to protect the latter from Scud missiles of Saddam in a possible U.S. operation against Iraq.

LET'S FINISH THIS EU THING
The political parties which extend support to the adoption of EU adjustment laws have majority in the parliament. The total number of votes in favour of EU laws reach 304 when the seats of Motherland Party (79), Democratic Left Party (65), New Turkey Party (61), Ak Party (46), and Felicity Party (53) are taken into account. The public opinion expects political parties to adopt the EU laws without being affected from election concerns or political interests.

TURKEY ONE OF 16 MOST DYNAMIC COUNTRIES OF WORLD
United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) showed in its last report Turkey as one of the 16 most dynamic countries in the world in respect of production and export performance. The report noted that Turkey is one of the few developing countries which has dynamic structure. The report of UNIDO is titled ''Industrial Development Report 2002/2003:Competing Through Innovation and Learning.''

IRAQ ALARM
The U.S. asked for permission to deploy land troops and air bases in Turkey and to use all military bases except Incirlik. Following the visit of U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Robert Pearson to Foreign Ministry in the morning, critical meetings took place in Ankara yesterday. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Huseyin Kývrýkoglu and then they visited President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. Gen. Kývrýkoglu told in the meetings that if the demands of the U.S. are accepted, the government has to get authority from the parliament for coming of foreign soldiers to Turkey and for sending soldiers abroad.

ECEVIT SURPRISES YILMAZ
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz had an interesting conversation in the parliament on Monday. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit firstly proposed Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yýlmaz to postpone the elections. Yýlmaz didn't accept that. Later Ecevit asked Yýlmaz if it was possible to make Sebinkarahisar, the northern town of Giresun, a province as Rahsan Ecevit was born there. Yýlmaz was surprised with this proposal of Ecevit and told him to discuss that.

ECEVIT:WE TRY TO PREVENT WAR
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit met with Chief of General Staff Gen. Huseyin Kývrýkoglu twice and then met with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer yesterday. Prime Minister Ecevit told reporters after his contacts that ''we try to deter the U.S. administration from a military operation. Certainly we make our military and political preparations.'' Ecevit recalled that the U.S. was resolved to hit Iraq , adding ''even if we don't give permission, the U.S. will do it. They tell us that if we oppose it, the situation will be against us.'' Ecevit has another concern:''the Kurdish state has been de facto founded. If the U.S. attacks Iraq, the situation will become worse.''

EARLY ELECTIONS ON THE WAY
Constitutional Commission approved yesterday with 22 votes the motion for holding early elections on November 3. Three deputies from the Democratic Left Party (DSP) cast votes against the motion. The motion will be discussed by the parliament today.

STRATEGIC BARGAINING
The U.S. administration conveyed the message to Turkey by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Robert Pearson that it would send an aid worth of 228 million dollars to Turkey, it will sell AWACS early warning planes to Turkey and found qualified industry zones in Turkey if the latter accepts to assume a role in a possible U.S. operation against Iraq. After this message of the U.S., Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit accompanied by Foreign Minister Sukru Sina Gurel visited President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and met with National Defense Minister Sabahattin Cakmakoglu.

HIGHER MILITARY BOARD CONVENES TODAY
The Higher Military Board will convene today under the leadership of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. It will discuss the promotion of generals, admirals and colonels and retirement of military personnel. The Council will also discuss the officers who can be dismissed from the army due to their undisciplinary acts and their getting involved in fundemantalist activities.

PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSIONS ARE VERY FAST
The Constitutional Commission adopted yesterday the proposal for holding early elections on November 3. The proposal will be voted in the parliament today. The commission also adopted the EU adjustment laws as the deputies of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) were the only deputies in the commission who were against the proposal. The Constitutional Commission therefore adopted the provision of the EU adjustment laws bill that brings life imprisonment instead of death penalty. Meanwhile the National Education Commission adopted the provision that permits Kurdish courses.

BEZMEN BEFORE COURT
Halil Bezmen, a businessman who is wanted in Turkey for smuggling of historical works of art and falsifying documents, will be brought to court in the U.S. today. Bezmen was taken into custody in the U.S. as his visa in the U.S. ended and the American officials didn't extend his visa.

TURKISH SOLDIERS REPAIR OPEN-AIR PRAYER PLACE IN KOSOVO
Turkish soldiers who served the Kosovar people since it started mission in Kosovo within the scope of U.N. Peace Keeping Force, has recently repaired an open-air prayer place which was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1455 during his military expedition to Kosovo. The place was on the point of collapse during the communist regime. Turkish soldiers repaired the place and opened it with a ceremony. Turkish soldiers hold circumcision ceremonies, build schools, and also construct roads in Kosovo.

TIM CHAIRMAN SATICI WARNS POLITICANS
Addressing the Turkey Exporters Union (TIM) General Assembly meeting, TIM Chairman Oguz Satici said that ''the political parties' proposals to solve the problems of country are very similar to each other, so they should either explain well the differences among them or they should end personal fights among them and unite.''
