EMBLEM OF NEW PARTY READY
The new formation headed by Ismail Cem, Husamettin Ozkan and Kemal Dervis will become a political party today with the name of New Turkey. The paper got an emblem in which there is the figure of a father and his daughter. The petition regarding the foundation of New Turkey will be submitted to the Interior Ministry this morning. Istemihan Talay is expected to be the secretary general of the new party, while Husamettin Ozkan and Kemal Dervis will be the deputy leaders.
KARATAS IN ATHENS
One of the leading newspapers in Greece To Vima said that Dursun Karatas, the leader of the illegal organization DHKP-C is in Athens. According to the Greek paper, Karatas spends many months of the year in Greece and he is in Athens nowadays. This news of the Greek paper brought onto agenda the possibility that Karatas was captured in Greece during the operations launched by the Greek police against the November 17 terrorist organization in Greece. But this claim has not been confirmed. Foreign Ministry will give a note to Athens today asking Greece if Karatas was captured.

ECEVIT HOLDS RESPONSIBLE OTHER PARTIES FOR
AKP AND HADEP'S GETTING POWERFUL
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit thinks that early elections will be to the advantage of People's Democracy Party (HADEP) and AK Party, adding that this will cause a problem for the regime in Turkey. Ecevit holds other parties responsible for AKP and HADEP's getting powerful. Ecevit stressed that none of the political parties carried out a serious political struggle with these two parties, adding that they even thought of making cooperation with them in elections.
OZKAN FOUNDING MEMBER OF NEW TURKEY
New Turkey party will be founded today by the petition that will be given to the Interior Ministry. Husamettin Ozkan are among the founding members of the party. The members of the new party will elect their leader and hold their first group meeting in the parliament today.

FIRST MEETING IN PARLIAMENT
The parliament will open today by the call of the True Path Party (DYP) and AK Party. A total of 184 deputies have to be in the parliament for the meeting to be held. DYP and AK Party has 138 members in the parliament. If there is no support from other parties, the parliament won't convene.
INDUSTRIALISTS START CAMPAIGN IN U.S.
Turkish industrialists start lobbying activities in the U.S. in order to make the qualified industry regions planned to be founded in Turkey to cover labour intensive sectors. The Strategy Working Group composed of Turkish Exporters Union, Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey and Association of Turkish Businessmen and Industrialists will have a meeting with U.S. parliamentarians and U.S. Trade Representation chairman today.

AK PARTY THREATENS REGIME
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit announced that his target in election campaign would be Justice and Development Party (AK Party) and People's Democracy Party (HADEP). While he is resisting against the decision on holding early elections, Ecevit initiated his party's election campaign. Defending that problems beyond the regime would occur if the claim that ''AK Party's and HADEP's votes had increased'' came true, Ecevit said, ''there are things which should be done to prevent another February 28 process. We want to take measures within the democratic regime. As the DSP, this is the reason for our existence.'' Noting that HADEP was actually the representative of the separatist movement, Ecevit said, ''it should be proved whether or not Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan is telling the truth with his words about change in his ideas. I don't want any ban on Mr. Erdogan and even closure of his party. On the contrary, these should become free and their real face should be seen within this freedom.'' Meanwhile, HADEP and AK Party reacted to Ecevit's words about them. AK Party deputy leader Abdullah Gul said they regret the Prime Minister's words while HADEP leader Murat Bozlak said, ''Ecevit is not physically ill but his opinion and thought are ill and deranged. He has been a real pain for people for years as the ruling party. How can HADEP be dangerous although it is not in the power?''
ATTACK DESTROYS BALANCE
Professional organizations warned that an operation against Iraq would destroy Turkey's economic balances and endanger its territorial integrity and that the border trade in eastern and southeastern Anatolia would end. Meanwhile, Ankara Chamber of Commerce Chairman Sinan Aygun stressed that the United States should first of all compensate the losses that Turkey suffered due to Gulf Crisis.

MHP AND ANAP WARN ECEVIT
Following the proposal of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit who said that elections should be held on in April, 2003 rather than on November 3, a DSP delegation met with representatives of political parties. However DSP delegation could not get any positive response from any party except the Felicity Party (SP) which waits for end of political ban of Necmettin Erbakan. Yahnici, a MHP deputy said that ''it is not possible for the government to stay in power if it gives up early elections.'' The Motherland Party (ANAP) on the other hand told DSP that if the elections are delayed, the government would be overthrown.
IMF IS AFTER COMMITMENT
The reforms that are necessary for continuation of the economic programme can't be adopted due to the early elections. IMF which will make its fourth review in October, wants to get commitment from political parties for the continuation of the economic programme.

WHAT DID HE MEAN TO SAY?
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said, ''it is said that Justice and Development Party (AK Party) would be the first party and also People's Democracy Party (HADEP) would have seats in the parliament. If this happens, Turkey will face problems beyond the regime.'' ''If AK Party and HADEP have seats in the parliament, these can be parties threatening the regime within natural process of democracy. AK Party leader Erdogan says he has changed. Where is the proof? What is HADEP? It is the party cooperating with PKK and Ocalan. Other parties are trying to cooperate with these two parties although they have to adopt a joint position against them.'' Meanwhile, AK Party and HADEP reacted to Ecevit's statement. AK Party deputy leader Abdullah Gul said, ''these words are statements of a political leader who is worried after foerseeing the results of elections.'' HADEP leader Murat Bozlak said that HADEP was ready for elections and claimed that they would win necessary votes to have seats in the parliament.
''I DON'T WANT TO UPSET MR. BUSH''
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said, ''Iraq is absolutely not an Afghanistan or a Vietnam. If the United States enters Iraq, it cannot leave it so easily. We don't want to hurt U.S. President Bush. However, in line with our friendship, we consider it a duty to convey our concerns to Mr. Bush. If a war breaks out in Iraq, it will also spread to Turkey.''
KARATAS IN ATHENS
Greek To Vima newspaper reported that terrorist DHKP-C organization's head terrorist Dursun Karatas had spent most of the year in Athens, according to informantion it received from the Greek intelligence. The newspaper said Karatas was still in Athens and had started to bring in all his aiding terrorists. It added that Greek police were pursuing Karatas and he had been cooperating with terrorist November 17 organization.

BRIBERY TALLY
Turkish workers living abroad started to come Turkey via Greece in order to save themselves from bribery in Bulgaria. Ismail Soylu, a Turkish worker living in the Netherlands, kept a tally for the bribery he was forced to give in different places by the Bulgarian officials. He noted down each bribery he gave to Bulgarian officials and in the end, he gave a total of 102 euro bribery while he crossed Bulgaria.
