IZMIR (A.A) - 22.07.2002 - The house in Urla town of western province of Izmir where Nobel winning poet George Seferis of Greece, a prominent personality of Greek literature, was born draws great attention and interest of Greek tourists.
Speaking to the A.A correspondent, Muzaffer Sumer, the owner and operator of the house namely ''Hotel Yorgo Seferis Residence'', said on Monday that he had purchased and restored Seferis's house and transformed and redecorated it into a boutique hotel.
''This house located in Iskele district in Urla is the house where Seferis was born in 1900. It was ruined when we purchased it. We restored it in its original shape and we gave his name to this boutique hotel in his memory. Some Greek tourists who visited the house sent us his photos and books and we now display them on shelves in the basement,'' he said.
Noting that many Greek tourists visited Seferis's house, Sumer said that the house had become a ''bridge of friendship'' between Turkey and Greece.
''Greek tourists do not leave Turkey without visiting Seferis's house. Besides Greek tourists, we hosted many Greek guests who are ministers and members of Greek parliament,'' he said.
