ANKARA (A.A) - 21.07.2002 - The Motherland Party (ANAP) rejected the Democratic Left Party's (DSP) proposal to postpone the early election that was planned to be held on November 3, 2002.
A group of members of the DSP including Group Deputy Chairman Emrehan Halici, Secretary General Suleyman Yagiz, State Minister Zeki Sezer and State Minister Tayfun Icli paid a visit to ANAP Parliamentary Group.
Addressing journalists following the meeting, ANAP Parliamentary Group Deputy Chairman Beyhan Aslan said, ''the DSP proposed to postpone early elections. However, we rejected this proposal.''
''We will call on the parliament to convene in an extraordinary session on July 29 to adopt bills on adjustment to the European Union (EU) and to take a decision on taking the country to early elections on November 3. We told the DSP delegation that recent political uncertainty could not continue any longer, and that early elections would be beneficial for Turkey,'' he said.
Aslan added, ''we will not attend tomorrow's extraordinary meeting at the parliament. We decided not to attend a meeting at the parliament in which the EU laws are not taken up.''
