ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan called on Thursday the parliament for a meeting on July 25, 2002 in order to discuss the censure motion to be presented by his party aiming at toppling the government.
Responding to questions of reporters, Kutan claimed that the parliament had already lost political and numerical legitimacy and that elections could not be held with this government.
To this end, Kutan said, his party would present a censure motion against the government to the Office of Parliament Speaker.
Kutan continued, ''the Parliament Speaker has to call the parliament for a meeting under article 93 of the Constitution and seventh article of the Parliamentary By-Laws. However, we will ask the political party groups to sign a petition for a meeting of the parliament in order to discuss the censure motion.''
An election government had to be formed, Kutan said and added, ''then, Political Parties Law and Election Law have to be amended. SP will start contacts on Friday to for formation of an election government.''
Asked if they would take part in the election government, Kutan said, ''we do not claim that we should take part in an election government. Of course, it is possible for us to support such a government from outside under some conditions.''
Upon another question, Kutan said, ''everybody says that this government should go. If they are sincere about their word, they will support our censure motion and sign the petition asking the government to convene for a meeting in order to discuss the censure motion.''
Asked if they would support the extraordinary meeting of parliament on July 22, 2002, Kutan said, ''there is not any definite decision because we have not received enough information yet.''
