ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - The Finance Ministry is ready to allocate some appropriations for preparations of the elections without waiting until a decision to hold elections is taken.
Sources told A.A correspondent on Thursday that the Finance Ministry was ready to provide necessary source to the Higher Election Board (YSK) to launch initiatives to update electoral rolls if the Board makes such a request.
The officials of Finance Ministry noted that it was so natural that there was not any source for elections in the budget of YSK and that this source was allocated only within the scheduled year of general elections.
Since there is not any appropriations for elections in the budget of 2002, additional budget has to be made after the parliament takes a decision of holding early elections.
It is noted that YSK will need 45-50 trillion Turkish liras (TL) for the elections and that the additional budget will be around 120 trillion TL.
