Kutan: There Is Not Any Obstacle For Independent Candidacy Of Erbakan

ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan said on Thursday that there was not any obstacle for independent candidacy of banned Welfare Party (RP) leader Necmettin Erbakan in the general elections.
SP group convened under the chairmanship of Kutan.
When reporters reminded him about the statement of Higher Election Board (YSK) Chairman Tufan Algan that ''Erbakan could not join the elections before his political ban ended,'' Kutan said that the jurists had to examine the issue.
Kutan noted, ''the jurists had earlier said that that there was not any obstacle before before independent candidacy of Erbakan under current regulation. Algan expressed some views by showing some legal reasons. We will express our views after our jurists examine the issue.''
