I.M.F. Delegation Pleased Generally About Developments In Reconstruction Of State Banks

ANKARA (A.A) - 18.07.2002 - The IMF delegation headed by IMF Turkey Desk Chief Juha Kahkonen said that they were pleased generally about the developments concerning the reconstruction studies in state banks.
Three issues were taken up in the meeting held recently between the IMF delegation and the state banks joint administration council members.
The first one of these issues is closing of bank branches; the second one is the number of those personnel who started to work on contract basis and thirdly the privatization strategy.
The officials from both sides noted that the number of those personnel who started to work on contract basis is high in Ziraat Bank, while this figure is low in Halk Bank.
IMF delegation has the idea that closing of bank branches is not at the sufficient level, while the state banks joint administration says that the process lasts long as there is the obligation to have one branch in every town.
IMF wants speeding up of privatization within the scope of reconstruction process in state banks. Meanwhile a consultant firm will be hired within few months to determine the privatization strategy. The firm will prepare a report on the determination of a privatization model as soon as possible.
